Say what you mean, mean what you say

That’s all I ask of my online friends. While I’ve met most of you, some I haven’t, and it isn’t nice if you are not the person you represent yourself to be online. Know what I mean?

Those I’ve met, by and large, have lived up to their online personalities, which is well and good. Those who haven’t … well, don’t you get tired being at least two persons, one online and the other off? And won’t it get more disjointed over time? Which one is the real you?

Then of course, there are those who are plain silly online and then try to explain that they’re not really like that in real life. Well, why not?

I suppose the Net allows people not to be themselves. But why not? Why be someone else online and say things that you normally won’t in real life? And then have to explain yourself?

If you say what you mean and mean what you say in the first place, there’ll be no misunderstanding, no confusion. Or are you ashamed of the real you?
