Loyal Customers
I wanted roti telur for breakfast this morning so I’d walked to the nearby curry house for it. When I got there, I saw three familiar faces talking on the pavement. These are the shop’s regulars – more regular than I, they are there every morning, except when not working – and I thought they were waiting for someone or something.
Then when I got close enough to see the front of the shop, I saw that two-thirds of its shutters were still down. No wonder those three women were outside on the pavement. The shop was late opening for business this morning.
I walked past and went into 7 Eleven two doors away. Five minutes later, the curry house had still not opened, so I changed my mind about a roti telur breakfast and instead went into the bread shop where I got a cheese bun.
I know … cheese bun is not roti telur. But then, I’m not as loyal as those three women who were still waiting for the shop to open when I walked past the second time.
