This morning, on the way to work:

Instrumentals Playlist

1) “Dueling Banjos” (Eric Weissberg & Steve Mandell)
2) “Music Box Dancer” (Frank Mills)
3) “Caravansary” (Kitaro)
4) “Classical Gas” (Mason Williams)
5) “Kreen-Akrore” (Paul McCartney)
6) “Soul Sacrifice” (Santana)

This evening, on the way home:

Alison Moyet Singles

1) “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”
2) “Only You”
3) “Nobody’s Diary”
4) “Winter Kills”
5) “Love Resurrection”
6) “All Cried Out”
7) “Invisible”
8) “That Ole Devil Called Love”
9) “Is This Love”
10) “Weak in the Presence of Beauty”

Despite having 7GB worth of music in my ZenX (that’s just a quarter of its 30MB capacity), I find myself wondering what to play every morning and most evenings, and then usually playing the same selections over and over again – Acoustic Alchemy, Point of Grace, Praise & Worship, Women (selection), etc.

And so it was this morning, and I eventually selected the Instrumentals playlist that I haven’t heard in a while to accompany me on my drive to work.

Come evening, same story – what to play? Scrolling through the playlists, I eventually selected Alison Moyet’s Singles CD. As I haven’t heard it for quite a while, each song sounded “new” (as opposed to “played over and over again”). The more well-known hits from the selection included “All Cried Out”, her first solo hit, and “Only You” from her Yazoo days, as well as “Love Resurrection”, “Invisible”, and “That Ole Devil Called Love”.

I find that I actually prefer listening to instrumentals because there are no lyrics to sing along to, which allows me some think time against the (usually) soothing music.

Of course, I go crazy once in a while and blast Donna Summer’s “MacArthur’s Park” and “She works hard for the money”.
