Public Hotspot experience

The closest analogy I can think of is someone who is used to private transport having to take a bus and not knowing what to do.

Pantai Medical Centre is a TMNet hotspot. There’s a computer in the cafeteria for anyone to use. While I was there today, I used the computer to relieve myself of my Net addiction.

The TMNet hotspot login page came up. I logged in. A smaller window popped up, I closed it without bothering to see what it was about.

After I was done with surfing some “must-see” sites, I closed the various windows and went back upstairs to my father’s room. While still in the lift, I found myself wondering if I had to log out of my TMNet hotspot account. You see, previous use of TMNet hotspots had been on my own portable devices (Dana and Phoebe, my own “private transport” ).

To make sure I was logged out, I went back downstairs to check. There was no one using the hotspot computer so I checked and found that the login page did not come up but instead I could surf any site I went to.

Eek …

I was still logged on. And I didn’t know the URL for the login page. Neither did the cafeteria staff.

Double eek …

I checked the TMNet site and looked through the hotspot FAQ. No login URL given. Saw a link for customer care and tried that. Found a 1-300 number to call. Got a rep quite easily (it is Sunday) and explained my dilemma. Eventually, after much waiting, she gave me the logout URL.

Bingo, it worked.

Phew …

BTW, yes, that smaller window that popped up after the initial login is the logout window which is not supposed to be closed. So, don’t ever close it if you’re using a public TMNet hotspot. But in case you do, here’s the logout URL:
