Well, not really a toy, cuz I bought it for a practical reason – to back up data from Phoebe, as well as exchange files (especially big files) between Phoebe and home PC.
It’s an external portable hard disk drive, only 5″ x 3″ x 0.5″. 60GB capacity.
See its size next to my SE t68i phone.

Got it from my supplier, yeapch, who is reliable and fast. Ordered it on Wednesday evening, received it this morning. Oh, he’s in Penang, I’m in KL.

It is exactly a week to kdlang’s concert in Singapore.
My brother emailed this morning to say there’s an article in Straits Times Life! on her today, and gave a link to the online version. Unfortunately, registration is required, and the form asks for way too much personal information so I didn’t register. I replied and told him, and asked him to keep the paper clippings for me. He replied with the full text of the article, which I don’t think I can reprint here (copyright and what-have-you), but have excerpted below for comment.
| KATHRYN Dawson Lang was nursing a nasty cold when she phoned Life! from Los Angeles last Wednesday morning. |
It’s Kathryn Dawn Lang, not Kathryn Dawson Lang.
| The hallmark of this tour is that in each destination, she performs with the local symphony orchestra, often barefoot. |
This brings to mind her song “Barefoot”, which she wrote for the movie Salmonberries. Yes, she’s in the movie, too.
Certain lines in the song have given me the goosebumps, in particular, the chorus:
“But I’d walk through the snow barefoot
If you’d open up your door
I’d walk through the snow barefoot …”
| Shortly before crossing over from country to adult-oriented pop in 1992 with the hit album Ingenue, lang came out of the closet, making public her same-gender preference.
The move made her an instant icon, especially after she was featured on the August 1993 cover of Vanity Fair magazine in a Herb Ritts photo. |
I have a real printed copy of that particular issue! I also found an online version, but won’t put it on this page (due to its possible offensive pose; my apologies to you if you find it so), but have it linked here.
Seven days to seeing kd “live” … never thought it’d happen.

I’m getting ready to attend my first local critiquing group meeting tomorrow evening. It’s organised by fellow 2004 WriMo Sharon Bakar at her house. I was supposed to have attended last month’s, but could not due to father’s ill-health (which turned out to be double pneumonia, from which he has come through admirably).
What happens at a local critiquing group meeting? We eat (Sharon’s preparing supper), we chat (preferably about writing), and we give comments on stories that have been circulated among the group a few days earlier. Oh, Sharon explains it better – here’s her account of last month’s meeting.
Now, I’m no stranger to such critiquing groups, having been active in two online writing groups a few years ago. But those were “online”; this one’s “offline”, happening in real-time, “live”, face-to-face. And one of the two stories to be critiqued tomorrow evening came from me. *gulp*
Sharon’s account of last month’s meeting spoke of the group being “honest without being hurtful” (she was quoting Leah, actually), and I can believe that. Having chatted with her a few times, I have found Sharon to be gentle and downright enthusiastic about writing. With her leading the group, I’m sure it’ll be a good session.
I’m looking forward to the meeting tomorrow. Especially the food … nah, kidding.
If I survive the critique, I’ll be writing a follow-up to this.
