Stomping Superstition in the face

There’s an old wives’ tale about Chinese New Year that one cannot buy shoes during the 15 days of Chinese New Year. That’s because the Cantonese word for “shoes” sounds like the word for “sigh”, so if you buy shoes during the new year, you’re gonna be sighing the rest of the year.

Well, I’ve been following this superstition for years and I’ve not stopped sighing. Time to put a stop to it. Time to stomp this stupid superstition in the face. Besides, I need shoes. Otherwise, I have no shoes to wear to work on Monday.

Maybe I’ll stop sighing for once in my life.

Reverse superstition in the works?
