“Old Groovy”
Did I mention when she walked on stage, I thought she looked like an … er, Ah Soh? I have to admit I felt a little horrified. This is Janis Ian? But the voice and the guitar work soon convinced me that yes, this is indeed Janis Ian. Then I reminded myself, she is in her 50s. After which, I concentrated on her singing, her stories and the rest of the show.
Maybe it was the formal outfit during the first set, cuz when she came back out for the second set dressed more casually, she didn’t look so Ah Soh anymore.
For the sake of my own safety (from the hands of JanisManiacs everywhere), I’m not going to explain what Ah Soh means in English, except that it’s a Cantonese term. I will however say that the initial Ah Soh look soon blended with the voice and guitar to bring to mind a term from my youth.
