Well, Lindsay Davenport lost. On the other hand, Venus Williams won. Her sheer joy at winning the Women’s Singles Final helped to soothe Lindsay’s loss somewhat. Lindsay, on the other way, let disappointment get in the way of the graciousness she’d shown in the 2000 encounter. She was so close to winning, and was eventually let down by injury midway through the third set. In her own way, she was a winner, for overcoming the pain to finish the match. They both played well, but there could only be one winner, and in this case, a most worthy and joyous winner!
