Panda Family Album
Most of the time, all we can to see is the mother’s broad back as she bends over what we can only assume to be her cub. This is true of both Bai Yun at the San Diego Zoo and Mei Xiang at the National Zoo.
However, one of the first images after she gave birth to Hua Mei in August 1999 shows Bai Yun looking up and straight at the camera, her little one barely visible on her massive body.

The next image is an extreme close-up which shows Bai Yun looking into the camera, her little one visible just beneath her chin.

Bai Yun’s knack for this type of pose has been repeated for both cub #2, Mei Sheng …

… and now her latest cub of just a few days old:

All of which makes for a most memorable family album of the San Diego Zoo panda family!
