G L A M O U R O U S

I had a good seat for the price I paid, with no heads or shoulders obstructing me in front. The guy sitting one row in front had binoculars – I guess he must really like her a lot! LOL … And I’m sure there was a lot of her to see, too – off-shoulder evening gowns (three of them), all of them with slits up to mid-thigh … mm … And she looks (and sounds) very good for a woman her age (57).

I feel very blessed for the three concerts I attended this year are all VOICES that sound as they do on record, i.e., no electronic make-overs to make them sound better so that they disappoint “live” . Not at all.

There were two levels of security – bag check and body check. I had to put my digital camera in a locker as they didn’t allow photography. I did sneak a couple of shots on my Zire 72 which has a built-in camera. More importantly, since it also has a built-in recorder, I taped some of the songs, too, including “Another Suitcase in another hall” , “I don’t know how to love him” , “I know him so well” and “Memory” .

The intermission, however, was rather long, at 30 minutes. I wonder if she took a nap? (Mean Chet … )

They were selling souvenir programmes and her latest CD at the entrance. I held off buying both – rather expensive at S$20/- for the programme and S$40/- for the CD. But after the show, I decided if either were still available, I’d get them. The CD was sold out but I got the programme. Yesterday, while shopping at Borders bookstore, I found the CD which cost less at about S$25/-. But it’s worth getting, a double CD with all her hits, and more.

Note – kdlang’s souvenir programme was free; Janis Ian had none. But I really shouldn’t compare …
