Meet Daddy Gao Gao.

You can always tell it’s him because of the smaller left ear. Here’s his bio from the Panda Profiles section:
Gao Gao
(“Big Big”)
Gao Gao’s life had a difficult beginning. An injured young Gao Gao (pronounced gow-gow) was found in March 1993 and taken to China’s Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve. He was dehydrated and the left side of his head was bloody where nearly two-thirds of his ear had been torn away. Gao Gao is rambunctious, inquisitive, and alert, and loves the variety of bamboo he is offered at the Zoo—keepers say he is a bamboo-eating machine! Gao Gao is the father of Mei Sheng.

And also the father of the new, soon-to-be-named, panda cub.

The National Zoo in Washington, DC, has announced the name of its panda cub. They had a naming contest a while back, and apparently the overwhelming favourite is …
Tai Shan
*makes face*
No, I didn’t vote for that name. I think I voted for Hua Sheng, which is the first two characters of Washington, DC’s name in Chinese.
Tai Shan means “peaceful mountain” (tai – peace, shan – mountain). It can also mean “big mountain” .
Eww …
Hopefully, they’ll call him Shan-Shan for short, which is quite a cute pet name … cuter than Tai Shan!
Can you tell I don’t like the name?
San Diego Zoo is also having a naming contest for its panda cub, and yes, I’ve voted in that, too.

Well, actually watching a webcast from Bluebird Cafe, Nashville featuring Janis Ian and three other singers. They’re doing rounds, i.e., everyone gets to do one song, beginning with the host (Jim Photoglo), and going on to the singer on his left, and so on.
The webcast began around 10:30 a.m., and they’re still going strong.
So far, Janis has sung four new songs from her new CD to be released next February.
Usually, you don’t hear any new songs from any singer until they’re made available in their next CD (or whatever). But then, Janis is not “any singer” . She’s different. In a really neat, nice, cool sort of way.

The mystery JI track mentioned in this post has been solved, by none other than the composer herself.
It’s an old song called “I Love You Best” , released in Australia by another singer who had a hit with it in the 70′s.
She even posted the lyrics to the song, and I was able to “sing” along to the music in Paula’s Cantonese version.
Now that the mystery’s solved, the next challenge according to “ManchesterFan” Anne is to look for this Australian singer who had a hit with the song.
