Dang … the NaNoWriMo site is buggy again. I can’t get into the NaNo Technology forum to spread the word about AlphaSmart products. :-P

Season of AGMs

Posted on 12 October 2005 @ 12:44 in The Working Life

Where I work, we’ve successfully completed another year of annual reports.

Soon the season of AGMs (annual general meetings) will be upon us, beginning this Friday, 14 October, and ending 11 days later on Tuesday, 25 October.

After which, I’m off for a much-needed break to Singapore to see this lady in concert:

Oh yes, ticket purchased. Travel arrangements confirmed, too.

:-)

Wolong Class of 2004

The Wolong Panda Breeding & Conservation Centre had a bumper year last year, with the birth of 16 panda cubs. (Yes, you saw right – 16.)

Here they are (picture taken from San Diego Zoo Weblogs):

Somewhere in there are Da Hua Sheng (real name Hua Ling) and Hao Yun (real name Mei Ling), Hua Mei’s first-borns. To quote Suzanne Hall, panda research technician for the San Diego Zoo’s Office of Giant Panda Conservation, “just don’t ask me which ones they are!”

*sigh*

It’s tiring to look so cute all the time.

Janis Ian in Cantonese!

Posted on 7 October 2005 @ 21:21 in Janis Ian, Music

I thought the melody sounded familiar. After giving it my further attention, I realised I’d heard it before as a Cantonese song by a singer called Paula Tsui from Hong Kong.

When I got home just now, I took out the one and only Paula Tsui CD I own and true enough, music credits for track two of the CD list “Janis Ian” .

The song?

“Here comes the Night” , theme from The Bell Jar, and featured in her album Night Rains, originally recorded 1978, released 1979 and digitally remastered 2003.

The third track is also credited to Janis Ian, but for the life of me, I cannot place the original JI English version.

Here’s a combined excerpt featuring Janis’s original English version followed by Paula’s Cantonese version.

I’ve always liked Paula, and now there’s reason to be playing her music again.
