Box of Kindness

Posted on 16 August 2006 @ 22:03 in Friends, Pictures

I was expecting a package from the States, but I wasn’t expecting one that overflowed with the kindness and generosity of a man I am pleased to call my friend. Richard, who I’ve known for about five years as fellow AlphaSmart user and mod leader from the now defunct AlphaSmart Community Centre, had recently started his own photo site where he’s also selling 5×7 prints. I ordered 5, and received a note from him that he’d put in something more in the box.

The “something more” turned out to be 7 additional notecards, and 9 postcards.

Each of the 5 notecards I’d ordered came in its own acid-free, lignin-free clear bag, and all five cards were tied with a gold elastic string. I could literally feel the kindness in the box and on the string, too.

The beautiful cards gave me an excuse to try out the 2MP camera that’s in my new handphone (the wonderful SonyEricsson K750i) and for comparison, I took another with my Nikon 5900 (below).

If you’re intrigued by the images in the pictures I’ve taken, you can see more at Richard Wanderman Photography. Information on purchasing the images can be found here.

Enjoy!

Box of Books – any takers?

Posted on 11 August 2006 @ 07:17 in Reading

When I moved to my own place early this year, I packed away all my books, and had one box labelled with the name of a book cafe in the new neighbourhood. The plan was to give that box of books to the cafe because the place offers a couple of shelves of books for patrons to read while waiting for their food or even while just hanging out there (that’s why it’s called a book cafe).

Well, that box of books is still with me, and I’m rethinking the earlier plan. What I’d like to do instead is to give away the books for a small donation to my favourite charity. I’ll need to think about this more. Stay tuned for more details.

Baby Panda Teeth

We’re quite familiar with how their lower teeth look like, but this is the first time I think we’re (or at least I am) seeing his upper teeth:

Who else would’ve been allowed such a close-up of His Royal Chubbiness’s mouth but his personal photographer, somesai?

Happy Birthday, Su Lin!

No, not Tai (he turned one 3 weeks ago), but his cousin Su Lin at the San Diego Zoo.

Happy Birthday, Su Lin!

SDZ blog’s Su Lin birthday post:

Happy Birthday to Su
Posted at 8:31 am August 1, 2006 by Suzanne Hall

Su Lin’s first birthday is tomorrow, and the Zoo is celebrating by providing her with a custom-made birthday cake. For past cubs, the cake has been an ice sculpture, often with fruit frozen into the layers of the cake. Some enterprising Zoo employees once fashioned birthday candles out of bamboo and added flame-like pieces of yam on top. It is always neat to see what our staff dream up for events such as this!

The party starts at about 8:30 a.m. PST, and we will have a Meerkat volunteer on hand to control the Panda Cam, so you Su Lin fans out there should be able to peek in on the festivities. We are pleased to see yet another panda cub reach its first birthday here in San Diego!
