It’s official – my adoption of the little panda cub that I’ve named Yoong Ping. We’re in Pandas International’s 2006 Adoption List.
They did get her name wrong (they left out the “g” in Yoong), and they also spelled Malaysia wrong.
Hai …
Still, it’s a happy day for me.

Do you hear anything?
No?
Neither do I.
The aeroplane has left.
Yes, the Chinese medication has worked, and the bottle’s not even finished yet. But I’ll continue to take it cuz that’s the thing about Chinese meds – you need to finish it for it to work best.

A friend likes to say sorry so much that I threatened to call her Ms Sorry from now on.
And then all of a sudden, from nowhere, this memory of a visit to a disco in Singapore many years ago (er, it was part of my job). The disco was called Fire, and it was organising a beauty contest called …
Miss Fire

No, seriously, that’s not a figment of my imagination.

I wish! Actually, it’s just a copy of our picture taken at the UK LRC in April 2006 that is in Paula’s hands.
Also in Paula’s hands is a signed copy of the Night Rains CD that has the song “Here comes the night” that Paula recorded in Cantonese as “人似浪花” (“Life is like the ocean wave” ). If you look closely, the same CD is also in the picture within the picture. Yes, that’s one special CD that travelled around the world – from Nashville, TN to Lewes, England before going to Malaysia and finally to the Hong Kong Coliseum to be presented to Paula on the night of 16 December 2006.
For me, this is trully an instant where words are not necessary, and a picture – or in this case, two pictures – paint a thousand words.
Note – in the second picture is the music director for Paula’s concerts

That aeroplane in my left ear is still here, and looks like it’s here for a permanent landing. I’m still taking the Chinese medication prescribed by my sinseh uncle, but it doesn’t seem to be helping. Well, the thing about Chinese medicine is that it’s a long-term cure, so I have to finish the whole bottle before I can say for sure whether it’s helped me or not.
But you know what? I’ve grown accustomed to that buzz in my ear. It’s quite soothing (no, really, it is). If only it were in both my ears, then I can shut out the world. For sure, it’s not stereo. Bah …
