Su Lin and Zhen Zhen – 2nd Update

Both girls now come to Mrs Qu when she calls them. They also allow her to feed them. Zhen Zhen is eating the local bread but Su Lin isn’t.

Zhen Zhen’s yard has a big tree that she climbed up the first day and didn’t come down until the next morning! She only came down because she was hungry. Mrs Qu said she had not been briefed about the two girls so she hadn’t known that ZZ likes to climb, so she got a little worried when ZZ didn’t come down from the tree.

Su Lin’s yard doesn’t have big trees for her to climb. Their two yards have a common mesh fence through which they can see each other. This morning (30 September), Su Lin saw ZZ and barked at her and ZZ ran away.

I called the keeper yesterday for an update on the two girls. I was surprised to learn that Su Lin is doing better than Zhen Zhen. She is eating her leafeater biscuits from SDZ, and the local bamboo, apples and carrots. Zhen Zhen is still excitable and eating the local bamboo. Both are exploring their new yards and climbing the trees in the yards. The keeper is having a hard time getting them started on the Sichuan dialect, but it’s only their second day here. I asked if I could volunteer to help with being the English translator but she said probably not as the girls are in quarantine, which they take very seriously here.
